Starting from Didi-Huberman’s metaphor of ‘fireflies’ representing oral cultures in danger, this musical journey is inspired by non-Western improvisational practices, to revitalise threatened musical cultures.
Using the counter-listening method theorized by Gascia Ouzounian, I explore and develop alternative modes of poetic and political listening. I have invented the concept of the “trembling score”, to propose another way of transmitting music, one that embraces the variations of melodies and sounds between temporalities rather than its fixity, thanks to a practice of trans-generational and trans-cultural improvisation. The concept of the ‘trembling-score’ takes distance with scores that ask for the fidelity to authors. « The trembling-score is mobile. It defies fixed systems, fixed melodies and fixed identities. It doesn’t demand fidelity. It gives a voice to memory holes. » It embraces the variations of music between temporalities, thanks to a practice of cross-generational and cross-cultural improvisation.
